It's all about having the right flight sim hardware…

Flight Simulator Cockpits

It’s amazing the lengths that some dedicated flight simmers go to in achieving a realistic cockpit-like experience. You could start off by just upgrading your hardware with things such as a CH control yoke instead of joystick, rudder pedals, throttle quadrant and radio stack. Even that would provide quite a comprehensive flight sim experience, but you can go even further and create a whole instrument panel with instruments hooked up to the computer and displaying ‘live’ data.

Below is a video of a cockpit that another flight sim enthusiast has put together. It only took him two months, but that consisted of over 100 hours of construction! He uses four monitors to give a more realistic yet still affordable flight sim experience, and I would say having a minimum of two monitors is essential as there just isn’t enough room on one for the flight simulator controls / instrument panel and actually leave you with enough space to admire the scenery.
