It's all about having the right flight sim hardware…

HOTAS Joystick

HOTAS Joysticks are great for an easy way of enhancing your current flight sim setup. HOTAS stands for ‘Hands on Throttle and Stick’, and these joysticks can look very slick and advanced, especially compared to the standard joysticks of yesteryear!

Some of the most popular equipment includes the Saitek X52 HOTAS, Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog, Thrustmaster T-Flight and having one of these is a must if you’re trying to set up to fly an Airbus for example, where a control yoke just wouldn’t cut the realism mustard.

Saitek X52 HOTAS Joystick

This joystick is a great middle of the range piece of kit that gives you a top notch experience without emptying your pockets. Currently priced at around $99 it shouldn’t break too many flight simm’ers budgets. It may look like it’s better suited to the space shuttle with its blue neon lights and futuristic appeal, but it is a valid contender in the top HOTAS joystick stakes. The Saitek X52 is completely programmable to whatever flight sim profile you want, and it also includes extra features such as trim wheels and three hat switches. It even has built in rudder and yaw control, so that at a twist of the stick you’re able to control the rudders as well. Of course if you already use rudder pedals with your flight simulator then you can disable the joystick’s rudder control, and just use your pedals.

More information to come…
